Growing up in a small community of poachers in the Black Shroud, Z was raised to be a hunter and merchant, being born with black and white fur and moon colored eyes she was bestowed with the name of “Hunter of the moon”. A traditional keeper of the sun name passed down from before the clans were divided.Z was a prodigy with a bow but her most useful skill was her silver tongue, allowing her to barter with even the most shrewd Ul'dah merchant, and more importantly giving her the edge in the black market, eventually becoming a regular at both the Sapphire Exchange and the more shady markets of Kugane.After a few years she mastered the art of bartering, her family entrusting her with more and more illegal and dark trades, Z’harem blissfully unaware of how deep she was going in the Black Market, faithfully abiding the instructions her mother gave her to the letter and bringing home the spoils.
That was until one cloudy night, she was 14, at the peak of her game, her mother entrusting her with the sale of some rare leather. The kind usually the leatherworking guild kept under heavy guard. The deal itself went smoothly, goods and Gil trading hands and just as she was about to leave, the market burst in a cacophony of chaos; The Sekiseigumi had found out the ring she was trading with.Merchants fleeing, their guards engaging with the protective samurai of the city; Z’harem was stunned, a rare moment in a hunters life to freeze, she was quickly taken into custody by the Sekiseigumi until a kindly older gentleman, a warm smile on his face knelt down and took her hand.“You young lady are in the wrong place aren't you? What is such a kind soul doing in a market like this?” he asked in a soft but commanding tone. “I…I was here doing a deal for my mother s…sir” Z’harem answered quietly, her normally silver tongue failing her in this anxiety-filled moment, “I was instructed to trade some leather and bring it back home, I swear I know nothing of the deals at this place. I was… only following orders sir” Her soft white eyes cast downwards.“I will take this one, she shows promise and holds no ill intentions towards the city” Mr. Nishimoto standing as he speaks, commanding respect from the gathered samurai “Her service to my household will be her penance for this night”
Z’harem served the Nishimotos and their wonderful daughter proudly after that night, learning how to properly cook and clean, eventually being allowed to travel to Gridania to join the archer’s guild, honing her skills as an archer, learning to hunt ethically and respectfully. Even helping take down her family, who she once had respect and love for, but now sees them for who they are, poachers and murderers.Years past, and when she was 18 she was taken aside by Mr. Nishimoto and given the most important task a father could give a retainer; Protect Say’ri with all you have and keep her taken care of and happy, and in return get paid handsomely, a house for them to live in and the respect of the Nishimotos. She happily accepted and later that day set off on a ship to Limsa to start her journeys as a bodyguard and adventurer.
Learning of the dangers that Z'harem and Say'ri face; Ase Nishimoto (Say'ri's mother) trained Z'harem in the art of the blade, teaching her the ways of the Samurai and Duelist. Training hard Z'harem learned to wield the katana and the rapier, vowing to use her new skills to better protect Say'ri. Taking up Ase's own training blades Z'harem sparred day and night for months, honing her skills, even getting the oppertunity to learn from some of the Sekiseigumi, the fabled protectors of Kugane.Her time with Say'ri, learning along side her and observing her magical prowess peaked Z'harem's interest in magic. Say'ri's destructive prowess with black magic and the white magic Z'harem uses as a bard inspired her to learn as much as she could to expand her magical skills along with her martial ones. Not a day would pass by that she wouldnt work hard to improve, learning the basics of black magic from Say'ri and honing her skills with the blade Z'harem dedicated herself to mastering these new skills.
One routine day on Mor Dhana when she was practicing her skills with Say'ri a glint of steel caught her eye; a rapier on the hip of an handsome Miqo'te gentleman, and she had caught his eye. The gentleman approached the training duo, mentioning he noticed the blade on her hip and her adept magical skills; "I cant help but notice your skill in magic, and one wouldnt carry a blade if they couldnt use it, Have you heard of the Crimson Duelists?"The gentleman's name was X'rhun Tia, He was looking to rebuild his order of red mages, mages skilled in both blade and magic, and Z'harem peaked his interest. Offering to show his skills in action (and to test Z'harem's mettle) he offered to take the duo along on an important contract. Her curiosity prevailed as she accepted and she along with her constant companion went along with X'rhun, completing the mission with ease, even saving a travelling merchant in need, Z'harem was offered a chance to learn the art of the red mage, setting her on the path of becoming a Crimson Duelist herself.
